
A national seminar dedicated to the organization and management of school feeding was held at Secondary School No. 15 in Dushanbe.
Mr. Muzaffarzoda Badriddin, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan, Maria Tsvetkova, representative of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) as well as other representatives from education departments and principals of pilot schools from Dushanbe and other cities and districts under republican jurisdiction have participated in the event.
During the seminar, it was noted that since 2023, with the support of WFP, a dedicated School Feeding Unit has been operating under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan. This unit oversees and coordinates the implementation of school feeding programmes, contributes to human resource development, and regularly organizes training and monitoring activities for pilot institutions and relevant departments.
School feeding is recognized as one of the key factors in preserving children's health and improving the effectiveness of the educational process. In this regard, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan has adopted several strategic documents, including the Concept for Improving School Feeding in General Education Institutions, the Strategy for Sustainable Development of School Feeding until 2027, and the State Programme for the Development of School Feeding for 2022–2027.
Since 2022, budgetary allocations for school feeding have been steadily increasing. In 2024, more than 11.6 million somoni were allocated to provide meals for 25,000 students in 55 educational institutions, with over 80% of the funds successfully utilized.
In 2025, f the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan endorsed funding for school feeding reached 18.8 million somoni, representing a 60% increase compared to the previous year. This year, more than 36,000 primary school students in 94 educational institutions, including 40 in Khatlon Region, 24 in Sughd Region, 8 in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, 15 in cities and districts under republican jurisdiction, and 7 in Dushanbe are provided with daily hot meals at schools.
Seminar participants emphasized the importance of intersectoral cooperation for the sustainable development of school feeding systems and the promotion of children's health.
It is worth noting that a series of training seminars on the organization and implementation of school feeding programmes were also conducted in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, as well as in Sughd and Khatlon Regions.
